Snow...snow...snow!!!

Well done to everyone for battling with the snow to get here this morning. We stayed in the warm for most of the day but we did venture outside, just for a few minutes, to help us think about how the snow made us feel. We used these words to help us write a poem. Some of us stayed in the warm as we didn't want to get chilly. Everyone else went sensibly outside to look at the snow.

All was quiet and still. It looked like a white blanket.

Don't throw that at anyone Alan!

Michael had great fun making a snow angel.

We wrapped up warmly!

Paris tried to make giant footprints in the snow. We spotted footprints made by other animals, we saw cat paw prints.

Ivett was wrapped up warmly too.

Our science topic this term is all about materials. On Friday we had a look at lots of different materials and tried to describe them. We had great fun with a box of secret materials, as well as playing with some bubbles which you could touch.

Our new topic is all about India. The children have been learning how to take notes about different topics, such as Indian food, clothes and lifestyle. We were very lucky to have Mrs Gupta in to visit us and share her knowledge about Indian clothes. Thank you to Mrs Gupta for a fantastic visit, we learnt a lot!

We've had a very exciting week. It's been so busy! Christmas parties, the visit to the church and attendance assembly! Well done to the children who have had full attendance this term, lets see if we can improve our attendance percentage next term by being in school every day and on time! (We need to be top of the list of classes not the bottom!)

Christmas Parties

It’s that time of year again! In the week beginning the 12th December each class will have their annual Christmas party. Please see the newsletter for the dates of each class’ party. Our Christmas Party will take place on Wednesday 14th December.
On the day of the party the children are allowed to bring a change of clothes with them. (They will change in to their party outfits after lunch.) We would also appreciate it if each child brought a small amount of food and drink to the party which can be shared with their class members. Children could bring a selection of fruit, sausage rolls, crisps, biscuits, etc. Please NO fizzy drinks, glass bottles or any food which contains nuts. If your child has a specific allergy to a food please provide them with their own party food selection.

We've had anti-bullying week where we learnt strategies to help each other and to stop children bullying others. We wrote some fantastic poems too! Our topic this week has been 'Reach for the Stars'. It will be our running theme this year. We want ALL our children in year 3 to achieve different things throughout the year. To get us started we had a Year 3 Opening Ceremony, where the children, and adults, (including Miss Jennings and Mrs Smith)wrote a target that they wanted to achieve by the end of the year. We then attached the targets to a balloon and let the balloons fly away, up to the stars. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves, it was truly magical and a great way to begin our Year 3 adventure.

Last week the children studied a play called Atishoo! The play is all about a bottle of perfume that makes everyone sneeze continually. We have some fantastic actors and actresses in our class. The children acted out the play in small groups and then performed them to the class.

In numeracy we've been learning about the properties of 3D shapes. We had to learn how many edges, faces and vertices a 3D shape has. We then learnt about a net of a 3D shape. We used the nets to make lots of 3D shapes and then made a model. Look how fantastic our models are!

In Year 4 we have been busy designing and making models of famous landmarks from around London. We've used lots of different materials such as cardboard boxes, cotton reels and plastic bottles. Year 4 visit Chigwell and Hainault Synagogue

Towards the very end of the last term Year 4 went on an exciting trip to the local synagogue. The children had been learning about the religion, Judaism. We were met by Rabbi Davis who firstly tested the children's knowledge of the religion, he was very impressed! The children then had a chance to look around the synagogue, including looking at a very precious Torah.
At the end the children had a chance to ask questions to Rabbi Davis. It was a very successful trip. Well done to all the children for behaving so wonderfully, you represented John Bramston superbly.

Year 4 have been very lucky to have a visiting teacher, Miss MaCloud teaching them music each week. The children have been learning how to keep a rhythm, learning new songs, as well as how to play different instruments in the Samba Band.

We've had a very busy Christmas week. We went to Chigwell and Hainault Synagogue to meet Rabbi Davis (we'll upload our photos soon so watch this space!), we've had Christmas parties and our yearly Christmas Carol Concert. It's that time of year again...Christmas fun has descended on to John Bramston! Next week there will be lots of Christmas activities including our Year 4 Christmas Party. The party will take place on Wednesday 14th December in the afternoon. The children are allowed to BRING IN some clothes to change in to, in the afternoon. We would also ask that children bring a small amount of party food or drink.
Please do NOT bring in any food item which has any nuts in, any fizzy drinks or glass bottles.
Please only bring the food/drink in on Wednesday morning, we don't have anywhere to store it otherwise!

We've been getting active in Y4G. We were lucky to have some visiting experts in Take Ten to show us what we could do to keep ourselves fit, active and ready to learn. It was great fun!

We've been making maths skeletons. We had to measure ourselves carefully, then we halved the measurements. Carefully we measured strips of newspaper, rolled them up and fixed them together with split pins. They took us a long time and we're very pleased with them.

We looked at how food changes state when it is heated or cooled. We made chocolate rice krispie cakes. We watched the chocolate melt when it is heated and then ate the cakes when the chocolate cooled and turned back in to a solid. Yum!

Welcome back class 4G! Everyone has settled back in to the school routines really well. We've had an interesting few weeks, getting to know each other, finding out about where our families originate from and now we have an exciting topic called The X Factor. For two weeks the children will be investigating significant people, including Councillor John Bramston himself.
In week two of this topic the children will be interviewing members of their family and significant people around the school.

Trip to Hainault Forest

On Wednesday 28the April year 4 children visited Hainault forest. We have been learning about different animals and their habitats. We investigated different habitats and found centipedes under stones in soil, spiders crawling around on the grass and woodlice in a bark of wood. We also found lady bird.

Did you know that there are about 500 different kinds of lady birds in the world and a female lady bird eats much more than a male lady bird.

All children enjoyed turning around logs and getting their hands dirty. It was one adventurous and an exiting day!

On Tuesday the 16th of March we had a drama day at our school. Somebody from Red bridge Drama School came to teach us how to use different expressions, feelings and skills when we do roll play.

We had the opportunity to act out some scenes from ' The willow pattern story ' and after that we pretended to be a character in the story.

We had an amazing time. We laughed allot, listened really well and worked wonderfully well together in our pairs and groups.

During the 5 weeks since term has begun. The children have worked very, very hard. Well done to all of you. So proud of you all! We discussed people who influence our lives and the society. We looked at play scripts and will end this week with poetry. We have a few poets in class... Children make sure to tell everyone about the poems we performed and what an Acrostic poem is. We will continue on our new topic London Arts and will be working on Black History next week. Have a great weekend and looking forward seeing you all on Monday. Keep smiling :-)

"On Monday 22nd June we went to Kentwell Hall. we went by coach it took one and a half hours to get there. We ate half of our lunch. After that we changed out money into Tudor money. Then we went through a deep dark time tunnel that took us all the way to 1535. We had to bow to each other. We learned all about the Tudors such as the way they cook pottage, metal and pottery. I had a nice time."

"Last week I enjoyed that week because it was arts week and we had been learning all about Bollywood. At Bollywood week I enjoyed Spanish and teaching people how to dance even though I did not win the award. Without my dance team I wouldn't have had such a wonderful week."

"On Friday we did PE in PE all of us did tennis. In tennis we practiced serving by throwing the ball in the air and hit it. After we had to be in partners. We needed a ball and two tennis rackets we are going to play tennis. After we had a quick game of beans then we packed away."

Red Nose Day

Well done to all the children who dressed up for Red Nose Day. It seemed very strange coming to school in our pjs and I for one found it hard to stay awake.the games in PE however woke all of us up.

Book week was great fun and the children enjoyed the work connected with Handa's Surprise. Hope you enjoyed the African dancing video. I was sorry to miss the dressing up day but it sounds as though the children who dressed up looked fantastic.

This week as part of book week we are looking at and working on activities based on the book Handa's Surprise. This is a story from Kenya. Encourage your child to retell the story to you at home.
We will continue with numeracy and literacy but in the afternoon spent time on my creative activities.

On Monday we will be attempting to devise a dance based on traditional African music an also learn some African songs.

Tuesday we are having a story teller in the morning and a visit to the library in the afternoon.

Wednesday and Friday is are Art and DT time - please note that we will be doing fabric painting and ask that your child brings in a tee-shirt or piece of fabric.

Thursday - Book Day so do dress up as a character from a book.

We know that this week will be different and lots of fun.

"Today Y4S went to Ilford Fire Station. first Y4W went then Y4S. we too the coach and it took 15minutes to get there. when we got there a man was there to guide us. when we was walking to a room we saw two poles and two fire engines. we got into the room and the man showed us a video"How to be safe with fire". after that we saw fake smoke in a room with an alarm going. then he showed us how dangerous it is when you are not wearing a seat belt. then we went into a hazard kitchen and we sat loads of broken electronics and we saw matchsticks and cigarettes. then it was time to go home. We said bye to the man and got on the coach back to school.

I liked the trip because it was fun and I found out some things I didn't know."

"On Monday we did PE and practiced for a Tudor dance. My group got picked. On Tuesday we all went to the library. On Thursday some girls including me went to Fot-sul. On Friday it was sharing assembly everyone showed their work. we did our Tudor dance."

It would seem there is confusion over the maths homework - I am really sorry, so to help, I have put an example of the grid that was mentioned.

26 x 6 = 156
26 is broken into tens and units and then multiplied.

x 20 6
6 120 + 36 156

What a busy week - you can tell Christmas is coming with all the extra things that happen in class. On Monday and Tuesday we made our class mobile.(see the photo)Unfortunately we did not win(well cannot win everything - see the anti bully palm tree photo. A big thank you to Mrs Whitaker for coming in and helping.

In ICT we designed our Christmas cards - they will be coming home at the end of the term.

As Charlie said the panto on Friday was great fun - if a little noisy. Don't worry we had a maths test before they could have their sweets.

Practicing for our concert on Friday 12th are going really well - the children are much quicker than I am at remembering the words to the songs. Friday was great fun - you will have to wait to see why. All the children now know the costumes they need so please bring them in as soon as possible.

We all went to Samba, it was my first time on the biggest drum the Surdu but everyone had an instruments. Then we played tennis in P.E.

10.11.08- death masks

What an awful day - the weather of course not our day at school. We had a great day especially in ICT. Have a look at our death masks.We have spent a lot of time on them - designing, making with clay, painting and now reproducing on the computer.We aimed to make an exact replica.... easier said than done but everyone had a really good try.

Now we have had half term we have started thinking about CHRISTMAS and Year 4 will be holding a carol concert for parents (December 12th) and so we have started learning carols this week. Watch out for more details.

Week 9

Welcome back - hope you all had a good half term and are ready for an action packed time as we speed towards Christmas.

Thanks to all the parents who helped their children make pyramids - we will be showing some of them in our sharing assembly on Friday. Hope to see you there at 10.20 am.
